School Closing Information

Inclement Weather or Other Emergencies

Other than physical location, North Hanover Township Schools are an independent public school system in the state of New Jersey and are not connected to Joint Base MDL in terms of decisions to open or close due to inclement weather or other emergency or unforeseen condition.

In the event it becomes necessary to close school due to inclement weather, power failure, etc.,please do not call the school. Staff members will be unavailable to answer your calls.

School Messenger

North Hanover Township Schools participate in the School Messenger Alert System. When severe weather or other emergency conditions exist (power loss, etc.), parents will be notified through the school's School Messenger Alert System. This system will notify parents of any changes to the regular school day, such as closings, delayed openings or early dismissals by notifying the parents with a telephone call to their home telephone. Parents may elect to add cell phone and email notification as well. Notice will also be posted on the North Hanover Township Schools website atwww.nhanover.com.

Delayed Opening

On those occasions when a later starting time will significantly improve weather conditions, North Hanover Township Schools may elect to call a delayed opening. An announcement of a delayed opening will be made in the same manner as a school closing. Please check the district website atwww.nhanover.com.

Please disregard any announcements related to a delayed opening on Joint Base MDL. The schools and Joint Base MDL are separate entities.

In the event of a delayed opening, all sessions are shortened according to the following schedule:

90 Minute Delay: Breakfast will not be served.

  • K4 AM Program: Children should report to the bus stop 90 minutes later than usual. The session will run from 10:00 AM to 11:50 AM. Children will bedismissed at 11:50 AM. Breakfast will not be served.
  • K4 PM Program: Children should report to the bus stop 45 minutes later than usual. The session will run from12:40 PM to 02:30 PM. Children will be dismissed at the usual time of 2:30 PM.

Kindergarten:

  • Children should report to the bus stop 90 minutes later than usual. The session will run from10:00 AM to 02:30 PM. Children will be dismissed at the usual time of 2:30 PM.

2 Hour Delayed Opening Hours - Breakfast will not be served.

  • K4 AM Session - Canceled
  • K4 PM Session - Report at normal time - 12:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Kindergarten:

  • Report 2 hours later than normal - 10:30 AM - 2:30 PM

Early Dismissal

Pre-Kindergarten:

  • AM Program: Morning Pre-Kindergarten will follow its regular school hours.
  • PM Program: Will not be in session on early dismissal days.
  • Kindergarten Children will be dismissed at 12:30 PM. Lunch will not be served.
